15.9. RADIO MOSCOW / CAROUSEL / TRIPTONUS

radiomoscow_BRAINCYCLES-SPREAD

Radio Moscow is known for garage-y blues with experimental breakdowns, unpredictable tempo changes, crazy rave-ups and fuzzed out psychedelic guitar work.

Things started out very promising when Dan from The Black Keys called (Bandleader) Parker up said he dug the demo that he gave him at a concert and was going to try to push it to get it on ALIVE/BOMP records. Parker returned by himself to Iowa to try to get the band up and going. Luke McDuff from Ames filled the vacant bass spot. Together they recorded the debut album for ALIVE/BOMP records with producer Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys. The Album was released Feb 27 2007. Luke had to go back to school so he continued looking for a solid line-up.   After one tryout Zach Anderson jumped on as new bassist. Radio Moscow has been touring ever since.

Conceived in early 2010 by guitarist/vocalist Dave Wheeler and drummer Jake Leger, Carousel‘s music incorporates many elements, most notably the harmonized guitar lines of Thin Lizzy, the bombast of Mountain, and the rhythmic propulsion of Diamond Head, Motorhead, and other bands whose names include the word “head”. Christened Carousel by drummer Jake, the band went through numerous personnel changes before cementing its lineup with the addition of guitarist Chris “Twiz” Tritschler and bassist Jim Wilson. Carousel has been a mainstay of the Pittsburgh rock scene since its first show in May 2011, sharing the stage with local punk, metal, and rock bands as well as touring acts such as Mount Carmel, Purling Hiss, and Disappears.

Soon after the successful self-release of Tears of Stone, their debut 12″ EP, Carousel returned to the studio in February 2013 to record a full length. Word of the band spread during the sessions, and Carousel was invited to join the Tee Pee Roster.

14.11. O VV L / PASTOR / CROWLEGION

owlheader8

Owl was originally hatched in 2007, when the youngest Baechle brother, Axell, sprang from an egg (aged 13 years already and with a Gibson Les Paul in his hands) and began to compose original songs in the style of classic heavy metal (BlackZeppelinBudgieLizzyMotorVenomRamones). The middle brother Alex, disturbed from his book by the noise, soon decided to join in, adding his Fender Stratocaster, supernatural songwriting, composition and vocal skills to the mix. The Holy Trinity finally came together at Christmas 2009, when oldest brother Clint was summoned away from a three month tour with some other band. The trio met at the Baechle family mountain aerie, high in the Sierra Mountains, and the demo tape was recorded (Clint on drums). The demo was circulated, with some critical acclaim, and much curiosity as to the real age and relationship of the band members.

Unable to procure a fourth sibling to complete the lineup of the band, the brothers adopted an African child named Melanie to be their bass player and sister in March of 2011. The Stone Loner seven inch was recorded soon after.  The band picked up steam, playing gigs around the Bay Area, and lumbering drunkenly up the West Coast for the first time in August 2011.

owl1

The Stone Loner seven inch finally came out (as a split label release with band’s own Magick Hermit Records, and Tombs In The Valley productions from Newcastle, UK.) in February 2012.  This was followed by a second West Coast tour.  The band continued to ravage the Bay Area throughout  the Spring and Summer of 2012, building a reputation as a formidable live act.  The first LP (a split label release with Magick Hermit and Lummox records) was released in limited quantity in November 2012, on the eve of  the band’s first US tour, which carried them to the East coast and back, through an onslaught of crazy gigs (and crazy weather).

2013 looks to be an even busier year, with many more releases and tours planned.

pastor4

Pastor started jamming in late 2012. The group consists of four young men with an intense love to the art of music. Their various influences can be drawn from your dad’s record collection (well, if he was actively listening from 1968 to 1978). The tunes are filled with fine riffs, spaced out solos and hard hitting rhythm sections. Yet Pastor tries to break through the niche and clichés by mixing the sound with a bands unique character. Come to the Sabbath…

Hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, but with a completely different sound than what the city is usually associated with. Think bulldozers, rocket fuel, downtuned guitars and destruction and there you have Crowlegion. Formed by Linus Pilebrand of the doom metal band Beneath The Frozen Soil in 2010, originally a sideproject but as of last year a full on band.
So far they have toured both Europe and Scandinavia, recorded an album with guest apperances by Tomas Eriksson (Griftegård/Year of the Goat) and Jocke Svensson (Entrails/Birdflesh/Skogen) and have set there sights on delivering an overdriven knock out punch to all that comes in their way.

18.9. GENERATION OF VIPERS / SEVERE

generation_of_vipers_logo

“Howl and Filth” is the latest studio album from Knoxville, Tennessee, based Generation of Vipers. Recorded and mixed by man of the moment, Kurt Ballou at God City Studios (Converge, Torche, Doomriders, Today Is The Day, etc.).

GenerationofVipers

“Howl and Filth” contains 6 tracks of the most aggressive and deeply personal music in the bands 7 year history. Fans of bands such as Unsane, Neurosis, Tombs and other forward thinking artists of that ilk will be pleasantly surprised. Generation of Vipers also features members of Neurot Recording artists U.S. Christmas and A Storm of Light.  This is their first album in 5 years.

Severe play blackened punk the way it’s supposed to be done: no holds barred rancid chaos from end to end! More than anything, these guys are epic songwriters, penning their tunes like subhuman gutter dwellers. Under all of the stench that their riffs kick up, you can’t escape their charbroiled melody. The vocalist for this band has a demon tongue; his delivery is raw and uncut torment”

26.9. BLACK TUSK / FIGHT AMP / AVALANCHE

blacktusk-logo

While sludge is the term of endearment for Black Tusk, we get to hear some elements of hardcore fused with a thrashy-doom feel sporadically intermixed throughout.

„We like to describe it sometimes as Black Sabbath and Motorhead having a barbecue. We really have no idea how to call what we do ! It’s fun and heavy. When we get together to write, what comes out is just what we think sounds good. Genres aren’t really for bands to come up with in my opinion.“

blacktuskgroup

Savannah, Georgia’s heavy-rockin road dogs return to the fold with a stop-gap EP to hold us over between their raging last full length and their next. ‘Tend No Wounds’ is a 6 song/20 minute blast of high octane raging Southern rock/metal that merges the classic original backwoods metallic hardcore Black Tusk sound with the newer more polished rock based tunes the band has honed after years on the road on the road with bands like Baroness, Skeleton Witch, Mastodon and Kvelertak.

fight_amp_logo2

Fight Amp have been chugging along since 2004 spreading their own brand of genre-bending punk/noise-rock/sludge throughout the country and world, taking notes from early Melvins and blending it with the speed of Karp and heaviness of Cherubs while maintaining the intensity of a hardcore band.

As a power-trio, Fight Amp plays a range of heavy songs from 2 minute rippers to 8 minute heavy dirges, all while keeping the listener reeled in with hooks and energy both live and on their 3 full length albums and multitude of splits and EPs.

6.12. UNCLE ACID & THE DEADBEATS / MIST

Uncle Acid LOGO66

“Mind Control” is Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats` eagerly awaited follow up to their sensetional debut “Blood Lust”.  Within itʼs blood soaked grooves you will hear shocking tales of bizarre desert ceremonies, religious brainwashing and drug inspired mass slaughter!

Imagine the original Alice Cooper band jamming in a cell with early Black Sabbathand the Stooges, whilst sitting on murder charges and you may get a glimpse into their fuzzed up world of exploding tube amps and cymbal smashing mayhem. However, this enticing act of musical manipulation is merely the icing upon a very sick cake.

“Mind Control” is a concept album with a theme that makes the acts and intentions of the likes of Charles Manson and Jim Jones seem like petty crimes. What makes “Mind Control” scarier than most albums is that it doesnʼt seem as sinister on the surface as it really is deep down, within the core of its black acid-drenched world of pain and torture.

uncle-acid-mind-control

The infectious energy surges and pulverizing grooves of “Mind Crawler”, tell the tale of a man on a mission who has fled from “Mount Abraxas” after mercilessly murdering all the members of his cult. He rides his motorcycle through the gates of hell and hijacks the weak minds of yet more foolish disciples to join him in his desert hideaway. This is when the real fun and terror truly begins….

Recorded at the legendary Chapel Studios over an autumnal full moon using the finest western electrical technology, engineer Jim Spencer (Bert Jansch, Robert Wyatt) has captured perfectly the bands live sound of saturated fuzz, mind-bending riffs and 60ʼs vocal harmonies.

mincontrol

A wider range of influences can be heard from both music and cinema, but their founding principle of presenting light and darkness still remains. Simple and ragged in all its low life glory, “Mind Control” is the ultimate expose of killer cult madness and mind manipulation.

uncleacid5

Uncle Acid has come to kill!

uncleacid2

From humble beginnings in the witchy flat lands of Cambridgeshire, England, Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats have devolved into an international band of street creeps, burnouts and draft dodgers. Since unleashing the monumental, internationally feared and revered set of blood-curdling chainsaw anthems known as Blood Lust, they have been locked away in the barn ignoring all the ensuing hype and publicity, whilst preparing to deliver their own new nightmare message of madness.

It is a fact that Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats have, in recent times, become one of the most talked about rock bands currently in existence.  It is another fact that they have become one of the most collectable bands on the planet, with first press vinyl editions of “Blood Lust” fetching up to and over £700 (yes, British Pounds!) on the collectorʼs market. Pretty remarkable for a record that is barely two years old.

uncleacid7

Uncle Acid are also confirmed to play direct support for Black Sabbath on their entire European Tour. While their tourmates take a day or two off to recover once in a while, Uncle Acid take the opportunity to play a smaller stage here and there, which leads them straight to Roadtrip Hell on a Friday Night.

JEX THOTH LIVE PHOTOS

Last week the Roadtrip force was strong in Vienna.
Unsurprisingly Jex Thoth´s show was yet another triumph, overshadowing the most instense in today´s Stoner Doom and Psychedelic Rock.
“Blood Moon Rise” is their first LP in five years  and is a serious indicator for 2013 being Jex Thoth´s year.
It will be released on June 15th  via Sweden´s I Hate Records.

29.7. VISTA CHINO / IRON HEEL

vistachinologo

Kyuss need no introduction to whoever is reading this. It´s no secret that both the Garcia Plays Kyuss and Kyuss Lives! shows at Arena went down extremely well, so it´s time to embark on another Roadtrip To The Valley.

Vista-Chino-1200

After a legal dispute over the Vista Chino´s old band name, Brant Bjork, John Garcia & Nick Oliveri & Bruno Fevery are currently recording new material in anticipation of a 2013 release.

Brant Bjork was asked about what´s in store for his old new band and their cherished fan base from around the world.

“There’s always relief when conflict is resolved and people can just let go and move forward. That’s where we’re at and we feel great. It’s always unfortunate to experience differences with specific people, but we feel great as a band. We’re really, really excited to move forward into the future and focus on what it is that we do, which is play music.”

That being said, spanking new material has already surfaced:
